PROJECT MGNT
B7 and B7M bolts are made of a carbon steel that is classified as an alloy steel. They contain a specified minimum content of cobalt, columbium, boron, aluminum, molybdenum, nickel, titanium, vanadium, zirconium or other metals. For example, steel is considered to be an alloy when it contains more than 1.65 percent manganese or .6 percent copper.
ASTM A193
B7M is used in lines where there is chances for embrittlement (sour service lines/H2S production areas). To avoid embrittlement, the percentage of carbon in B7M is slightly less than B7 and therefore every bolt is heat treated and hardness tested and certified. Tensile strength and yield strength of the B7M bolts are less than B7 due to the %carbon difference
Similarities
• B7 and B7M bolts are heat treated alloy steel studs that are commonly used for high-pressure and high-heat operations. They come in sizes ranging from one-quarter inch to 4 inches in diameter. Both of these bolt grades are used as stud and anchor bolts in construction projects.
